So now we’re gonna just talk about data for a second. Data is the fundamental building block for anything that you want to do with these modern computer systems that everyone’s talking about lately, you know, ai machine learning, robotic automation, any sort of automation, none of that can run without data. And you have data, even if your business is super old school, everything is on paper, on your desk, you have data, it’s on that piece of paper and all we need to do is make sure you can get that into the computer in a format that it can understand.
The simplest way to do this is by using something that’s been around for a long time, you already have it on your computer or you can access it in a web browser and that’s a spreadsheet It’s perfect for this situation. It is a grid that you just need to type the information in whatever format you want. You can, you can go out and get some fancy database software to put all your information. You don’t have to, you can just start with baby steps in Excel and get everything in there.
So let’s just walk through a really simple example of how you can do this for your business. Okay. You’ve got a list of customers and phone numbers and their addresses and how much you, you know, they pay you every, every month. All you have to do is open up a spreadsheet and put columns, first name, last name, address, company name, monthly building. You know, that’s it. Start filling that up. The most important thing about being using a spreadsheet and getting a database ready for the future is being consistent with your data. You can’t just start mixing up first names and last names and nicknames. And if you need to keep that information about somebody add another column and put that in there, just keep it nice and tidy because everything else from there forward is super easy.
Every software in the world is used to importing a spreadsheet worth of data. So as long as you get it into a spreadsheet, you can move on to the next level of your business when you’re ready, you don’t have to be ready today. You could be doing this five years from now, but you’ll have five years of data in that spreadsheet already ready to go when it’s time to take that next leap.
So I don’t even think you should start thinking about how to use AI or any of these newfangled things you’re hearing about, you know, in the news these days without getting the information into the computer into data.
